Getting Back to Basics By Having 'Me Time' With Yardley Soaps

Hey, Lovelies!

I don't travel down memory lane often, but sometimes things will trigger some of that nostalgia within me. I have been having those moments of nostalgia for a few weeks due to a partnership with a brand I haven't used since my teen years, Yardley London. This brand has brought back some wonderful memories and has helped me carve out some much needed me time in the process.

My First Personal Care Purchase as a Pre-Teen

I remember one day when I was ten years old, my mother began allowing me to pick out my own personal care items from the general store in my hometown in Maryland. The store was called Newberry's and it had everything you could need. I had five dollars to spend, back in 1987 that could get you a lot if you spent it wisely.

I went to the personal care section because I felt I was too old to continue using the plain soap my mom had me use as a child -- yes, I thought I was grown then. I looked up and down the aisle and I saw this brand that featured my favorite color, purple, on the box. I picked up the box and sniffed it. This amazing smell emitted from the box. So, I grabbed four boxes because they were two for one dollar at the time. I also picked up a bottle of lotion and of course, I snuck some candy in as well. I kept sniffing the bag because the soap's scent was strong but not off-putting. I enjoyed it a lot. Then, I finally read the box and found out the soap was English Lavender from Yardley London.

It Didn't Stop With English Lavender

Using the Yardley London English Lavender soap made me feel grown because the lavender scent perfumed my skin and I could pretend I was wearing perfume. When my first four bars were gone, I asked my grandfather for some money to buy more. Of course, he gave it to me because I was "baby girl" -- I was spoiled by him. To my dismay, they only had two bars on the shelf so I hurried up and grabbed them. Then I noticed a brown and tan box from the same brand. sitting next to it. I sniffed the box and it had a warmer scent to it that was a bit sweet. I grabbed the four boxes that were left of this soap as well.

I was a bit confused because the box said it was Oatmeal & Almond. I ate oatmeal for breakfast a lot in the cold months and I loved almonds. However, I didn't remember either one of these things smelling like this soap. I grew to love this soap almost as much as the English Lavender. By this time I no longer lived in Maryland but we visited back home every weekend so it wasn't hard to restock on my favorite Yardley London soaps. After my grandfather died, we didn't travel back home much anymore and my local stores didn't seem to carry Yardley London often. So I stopped using it and forgot about the brand for over 30 years.

An Opportunity from an Old Friend

This spring, I had the opportunity to work with Yardley London to use their English Lavender, Oatmeal & Almond, and their newest scented soap, Creamy Coconut. I told the brand that I used to use their soaps as a child and teen, my mother used them as well. The brand sent me my old favorites, English Lavender and Oatmeal & Almond along with the new Creamy Coconut bath bar.

Restoring "Me Time" With Yardley Soaps

Many of you know that I am in the process of regaining my mobility. This also includes being able to actually take charge of my own bathing once again. When the Yardley Soaps package arrived, I began using them next day starting with my old favorite, English Lavender. Let me tell you, the smell is just how I remembered it. Soft, almost powdery leaving my skin feeling really clean and perfumed. The scent of lavender is so soothing and comforting that I literally forget the world exists during bath time.

The weekend came so I decided to try the new scent, Creamy Coconut. Now, this bath bar has coconut and Shea butter in it. It smells like both coconut and Shea butter. This truly is a creamy bath bar. It creates a soft lather on the skin, leaving your skin feeling softer and gently perfumed. The following Wednesday I used the Oatmeal & Almond bar. What I know that I didn't know back then is that the Oatmeal & Almond bar is an exfoliating bath bar. There are fine pieces of oatmeal in the bar that you can see. When you rub the bar directly over your skin, you are gently removing dead skin cells and smoothing out your skin.

Since using Yardley soaps again, I have begun listening to music. I'm enjoying the time when I only have me to worry about and not deal with other people and their demands on my time. I even started using the soaps on sort of schedule. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday are my English Lavender days because this soap gets me squeaky clean and the scent lasts for a long time on my skin outlasting Occupational and Physical Therapy on those days. Saturday and Sunday are my Creamy Coconut Weekend where I pamper and nourish myself. Wednesdays are Oatmeal & Almond day because midweek I don't have therapy so I can get my skin smooth and comforted ready to finish up the week.

Renewing My Friendship with Yardley Soaps

Now that I am reacquainted with Yardley soaps, I have since restocked on the soaps I loved as well as looking forward to trying other scents the brand offers. I have a new appreciation for these bath bars now that I am older and wiser to know just what these bath soaps actually do for my skin.

I have sensitive skin so I need to use products that protect and soothe it. Unlike most other soaps, Yardley London does not irritate my skin. In fact, it soothes it.

English Lavender actually contains lavender essential oil which helps to heal and soothe skin by reducing redness and inflammation.
Oatmeal & Almond work to moisturize and remove dead skin cells to reveal softer, smoother skin. The oatmeal also calms down itchy skin.
Creamy Coconut is probably close to being a true beauty bar. It gently cleanses skin and leaves it feeling moisturized with a soft, warm scent that melds with your skin. I even use this bar on the face and hair sometimes when I just want to have this scent on me from head to toe.

Where to Buy
