NSFW: MAC Wants Us to Be Basic Bitches with Lollipop Lips?

Hey lovelies; this post is not safe for work so wait till later to read! I had another post planned for today but this topic is weighing on my mind. Is MAC setting up to punk makeup lovers everywhere? I must ask this after news of a questionable launch and an even more sketchy runway trend the beauty brand is trying to make happen like "fetch".

The Basic Bitch Palette

If you are a makeup lover and haven't heard about MAC planning to release a new palette called "Basic Bitch" then I will need to revoke your Sephora Beauty Insider status. Everyone was gushing over this palette last month when MAC Senior Artist, Netta Szekely, posted about it on Instagram. Well maybe not everyone.

You see, grown ass women know that Basic Bitch is not a compliment. So, that name is a huge turn off to many of us. Since Basic Bitch is a put down, why would we want to be made up like one? I thought this might have just been a mistake because someone saw a few younger girls calling themselves basic bitches and thought it was a compliment by mistake. That is until another MAC trend was spotted...

Lollipop Lips Are Not What MAC Thinks They Are

Apparently, a makeup look was seen last month where lipstick was smudged around the mouth. Without giving this look a name, it looks like the models just finished having a heavy makeout session, with maybe a little extra action.

Unfortunately, MAC in its quest to be "fetch", dubbed this look Lollipop Lips. *sigh* Umm... I've never seen a person suck on the candy known as a lollipop and their lipstick ends up looking this messed up. However, I've known of women wearing dark or red lipstick sucking on another type of lollipop and their lipstick turning out just like this runway look MAC is pushing. Many other women and men recognize Lollipop Lips for what they really are... BJ Lips. But MAC “Swears for Gawd” that this is a real trend, check out their response (screenshot for posterity).

Why is MAC Making These Choices?

One theory I have is that perhaps someone is checking out social media and looking to see what teens and 20-somethings are saying. Whoever is doing this is not quite understanding the slang they use. Check out the names of the colors in the palette in this screenshot for further evidence:

Horrible product name but cute colors

Another theory is that maybe MAC is trying to be ironic? Not in its true sense but the way many people try to be in their teens and 20s when they rebel against teachers, the "system", or more likely their parents. All for shock value and reaction.

My last theory is that MAC is setting us up. The beauty brand is punking us. The big reveal will be on April 1st with a big ole April Fool's message on their social media accounts.

I choose the third option because I simply do not want to believe that MAC is serious about having women look like basic bitches who just finished giving a blow job.

What do you lovelies think? Is MAC for real with this mess? Or are they punking everyone?
