Christian Dior has added newer versions of the iconic Lady Dior handbag for spring, cruise, and autumn 2016. The new looks feature exotics, denim, and fun details as well as the classic quilted "cannage" design of the Lady Dior. Take a look at the newer additions to Lady Dior and learn a bit about the bag's history.
"Lady Dior was born of a desire to create a bag with a strong identity. Something instantly recognizable. Iconic. It was first made in the Dior workshops in 1994, inspired by couture. Elegant, carried in the hand, the new bag boldly broke with prevailing trends."
Lady Dior is not the bag's original name. It was first known as "Chouchou". It wasn't until 1996 that it was named Lady Dior in tribute to the late Princess Diana. The princess fell in love with the bag during a trip to Paris. For those who do not make the connection, Princess Diana was also known as Lady Di. So renaming the bag Lady Dior in honor of her was a clever play on words for the couture house.
Since 2008, the face of Lady Dior has been Academy Award-Winning Actress, Marion Cotillard. As you can see from this Behind the Scenes video for the latest Lady Dior campaign, Cotillard epitomizes the classic elegance that is Lady Dior.
