Any technique that involves sewing can be incorporated into fashion and apparel construction. Quilting is no exception. Quilted accents can add a bohemian flair to clothing, especially if they are patchwork. Quilting can also be functional in fashion.
A quilted skirt, handbag, scarf, or vest are great style pieces to have. They are homey and have a boho feel to them. Patchwork quilted accents give this feel the most. If the quilting is monochromatic, the accent is seen more in the stitching details of the quilting. Whichever way is chosen; the result is very attractive.
Outerwear benefits the most from quilting. Because quilting typically deals with padding between fabric layers, it is ideal for outwear construction. The layers involved give added warmth to coats, and vests. This gives the quilting a function, a purpose beyond being something to add style interest.
Have any of you used quilting in fashion or clothing projects?
