4 Fall Beauty Looks That Flatter Kinky Hair

Fall does not officially begin until around mid-September. However, August is back-to-school time and when most of the fall merchandise hits stores. After I wrote a fall fashion post earlier in the month I figured I'd do one on beauty as well. This one caters to us lovelies who have kinky, frizzy hair that can and will puff out into an afro.

Why Focus on Beauty for Kinky Hair?

While beauty and fashion have not (yet) focused on kinky hair as a beauty trend for fall, I've noticed the use of kinky-haired models in a few high-fashion advertising spreads in the August fashion mags. I am not talking kinky coils, or curls but full on kinky afros. I've seen tidy TWAs and free flowing afros. So, the kink seems to be in for fall.

Beauty Look Trends for Kinky Hair

Really, if you can create it you and your kinky hair can rock virtually any beauty look you choose. However, there are some beauty looks that I find work with kinky hair better than most. Of course, I had to give them clever little names -- but you can call them what you will:

  1. Nude Awakening
  2. Natural Seduction
  3. Beautiful Expression
  4. I Meant To Do That

Nude Awakening

Just the name of the look suggests this a nude beauty look for kinky hair. It is meant to complement the way kinky curls and coils look after you took a nap. When they are soft and frizzy but still have some definition left in them. The look is fresh and a bit innocent in a way.

I chose to add nude shimmer to my eyes and a single swipe of mascara on my upper lashes only. No brow definition, just combed them to make them neat. A light sweep of blush across my cheeks. Subtly highlighted my nose and cheekbones. Colored lips with a nude lipstick.

Natural Seduction

This look plays on the idea of how the afro can be wild, free, and sultry. Comb out your curls for this look. Then style with your fingers to give your hair a "free form" look and feel.

This look is a few steps beyond Nude Awakening. Here you play up the eyes more with a light(er) smoky eye. Lightly define brows, and extend those lashes with mascara on top and bottom lashes. There is a more noticeable flush to the cheeks with this look to give that "heat of desire" feel.

Beautiful Expression

The name of this look speaks for itself. Use your artistic expression to create a bold look that complements your beauty. You can choose to be bold all over or focus your artistic expression on one feature. Here I chose the latter by focusing on my eyes.

I decided to create a sunset beach eye to convey the passing of summer into fall. An array of blue, sea green, bronze, gold, and even black to create layers of depth. Black eyeliner was used on the upper lashline while gold eyeshadow was used to line the lower lashline. A few swipes of mascara gives a full fringe look. I kept blush medium. Lips were soft and pink.

I Meant To Do That

This look came straight from a beauty trend on the fall 2015 runway. Utilizing the smudged mascara look at the lower lashline. This also celebrates all of those beauty mistakes that ended up becoming a killer look for you. I first rocked the ombre lip by mistake when my lipstick disappeared from the center of my mouth after lunch. I was getting ready to wipe it off but instead I used my pinky to try to push the color from the outside inward to help fill in. I got a cool ombre effect by mistake.

I chose the fall runway trend for this look. I went heavy on the liner and smudged it out beyond the outer corners of my eyes using a cotton swab. Letting my eyes be a bit messy was a contrast to the tight control of my afro. Don't worry because I meant to do that.

Like with any trend whether it be a beauty or fashion trend, you can interpret it to suit you. So my kinky-haired lovelies get inspired by these beauty looks and interpret them to suit you. Just for the fun of it so we all can keep track of each look, hashtag which look you tried on Twitter and Instagram.

So lovelies, which look(s) do you think you will try this fall?
