Last-Minute Beauty: Get Skin Summer-Ready from Head to Toe Pt. 1

I typically recommend getting skin ready for summer no later than mid-spring. I know schedules become hectic. Sometimes we just plain forget. Then we look at the calendar and realize summer is no longer a few months or even a few weeks away. It is merely days away. Don’t be scared. You can still get your skin ready before summer officially begins with these tips and beauty aids.

Smooth, Moisturize, and Soften (SMS)

Getting skin ready for summer is all about SMS. No, not sending mobile messages, but smoothing the skin, moisturizing it, and by default making it soft. How you do that is via exfoliation, hair removal, and hydration.

Exfoliate Your Skin Twice a Week Starting Now

Even if you live in a humid area, your skin can still become rough due to prolonged sun exposure, slow cell turnover, and other causes of rough and/or dry skin. Therefore, your face and body will need to be freed from rough, dead skin.

Face
A few years ago, I fell in love with Exfolikate. However, I can't afford spending $22.00 (0.5 oz. size), $85.00 (2 oz.), or $175.00 (5 oz.). Recently, I received a complimentary bottle of OZ Naturals Ancient Orient Rice Enzyme Dermafoliant. It is an adequate substitute for Exfolikate.

It is a dry scrub that you add water to and apply to your face in a circular motion for 20 seconds. Leave on for up two minutes to allow the lactic and alpha lipoic acid to breakdown dead skin cells to reveal the new, healthy skin underneath. Rinse with warm water.

Body
If you don't regularly exfoliate your body then you should probably start off with a loofah sponge or bath mitt like the Kessa Royal Exfoliating Glove from Zakia's Morocco to get started. A couple of days later you can start with maintenance by using a body scrub every other day on your body (please do not exfoliate your genital area you might get those granules in your vagina. No one wants grit in there.)

I found another use for the OZ Naturals Ancient Orient Rice Enzyme scrub. Add a couple of tablespoons to a full bottle of inexpensive body wash, shake the bottle up, and you have a body scrub ready to use when you need to exfoliate. For the time it will take you to rub the scrub over your body (not the genital area!), the lactic and alpha lipoic acids would have enough time to start working. Just rinse off in the shower.

Remove Unwanted Hair

Hair removal is a personal decision. Not every woman feels the need to remove hair from their arms, under arms, legs and/or bikini area. That is their prerogative. If you are a devotee to hair removal then you should always exfoliate before shaving or waxing. You want the skin already smoothed to give you the best shave and/or wax.
