Spring Transitioning for Kinky-Curly Hair Care with Radha Beauty Products

Spring is here! I typically write about transitioning beauty between seasons for skin care. However, you also need to do this for your hair. As we transition into warmer temperatures, we need to lighten up a bit without hair care regimen. One way to do that is to lighten up your pre-poo. For this, I am using Radha Beauty's Argan and Fractionated Coconut Oils.

What is a Pre-Poo?

Some of you may not know what a pre-poo treatment is. A Pre-poo treatment is a conditioning treatment applied to the hair right before shampooing. The reason for using a pre-poo is to help mitigate the drying effects of shampoos, especially those containing sodium lauryl/laureth sulfate (SLS). SLS shampoos tend to be drying for hair. Kinky-curly hair tends to feel the drying effects the most and often requires the use of a pre-poo so that the shampoo will not strip those fragile curls of all moisture.

Spring/Summer Pre-Poo Transitioning

The cold months of winter are over. This means the ultra-drying effects of the cold, windy temperatures outdoors, and the drying effects of indoor heating are over. As a result, you can lighten up on the ultra-heavy creams and homemade concoctions. For me, I prefer and often recommend using an oil pre-poo treatment. You can use oils as a hot oil treatment or an overnight treatment.

Radha Beauty Argan Oil Pre-Poo

When I received my complimentary bottle of 100% Argan oil from Radha Beauty I was happy because it was larger than the current bottle I had. With spring coming up and me needing to transition, I am devoting this bottle for hair use only. I added peppermint essential oil to it and applied the oil directly to my scalp then gave myself a scalp massage distributing the oil to my roots. It helped to alleviate the dryness and itchiness of my scalp. Plus, the massage felt so good! That was just part one of my oil pre-poo.

Radha Beauty Fractionated Coconut Oil Pre-Poo

I also received a complimentary bottle of this oil. It came in time because my other bottle went fast (other members of the household were sneaking some of it). With the Radha Beauty coconut oil, I it applied to my hair. First, I created four sections and secured each section with an elastic. For each section, I applied oil into the palm of my hand, rubbed my hands to together, and worked the oil through each section. I didn't saturate my hair with oil but I used enough to coat my strands thoroughly. Then I braided the sections to keep them secured for the night so they would not fuzz up while I slept. I put my doo rag on and went to sleep.

Wash Day Results

On washday I used a SLS-free shampoo so I rinsed the excess oil from my hair with warm water first. Then I shampooed my hair. My hair continued to feel soft after shampooing. I used less conditioner as a result. My hair was soft and fluffy just how I like it!

Stay tuned next week lovelies. I will be reviewing two curly girl products that will help you achieve your favorite curly styles!
